About the Work
Entwined was inspired by Friedrich Hölderlin's words: "But where the danger is, also lies the saving power." The work also draws on Otto Dix's The Skat Players, using fragmentation and reconstruction to reflect a collective point of no return. Molecules form chains of consequence around an elusive "snake" of methane, caught within a wrench that is itself entangled by molecules near a loose screw. Two lenses offer different perspectives: one magnifies CH₄ molecules, while the other projects colour using the FLIR infrared thermal imaging palette, with red representing methane and cooler colours indicating less methane. Delicate lungs echo trees or coral, shifting from healthy blue and green to faded orange as methane reduces oxygen availability. Together, these elements explore both the danger of methane and the possibility of finding the power to address it.
About the Artist
Mila Zunec Brandt
Croatia
Mila is a Danish-Croatian artist and student currently studying at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels. Her practice is rooted in an interest in nature, environmental activism and the relationship between technology and the natural world. Her involvement in the film Voices from the Mangroves, produced by Instituto Dinamarca and Instituto Quero, deepened her awareness of the diverse cultural experiences of climate change and environmental activism in Santos, Brazil. She is currently developing Tree City, a vision of a high-tech city inspired by forests and wooden architecture in Poland. Through this project, she explores the possibility that technological development can become increasingly seamless with nature while contributing to the protection of life on Earth. Her artistic training includes mentorship with Steven Zapata, as well as classical drawing and portfolio studies through The Drawing Academy, part of TAW, Viborg.
